Research Activities

I work on several projects determining the impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) introduction on the prevalence and density of Streptococcus pneumoniae, particularly in low-to-middle income settings. I also recruit and provide informed consent to patients with empyema to develop and validate a molecular test to diagnose the bacterial cause of empyema in children in Melbourne, Australia. 

Techniques/Expertise

Laboratory methods include: Quantitative real-time PCR, bacterial culture, DNA/RNA extraction, plasmid preparation.

Other skills include: Informed consent and patient recruitment, data analysis and record keeping, REDCap and Excel.
